Artist Statement

"The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance" - Aristotle

It is imperative for me to paint - the act of moving paint on the canvas ignites within me a passion to explore and inspire. I have always been a seeker. Painting the human form on the canvas gives me the opportunity to seek the fundamental value of the person before me.

I am intent on defining the moment. Using lush vibrant color, bold articulated shapes and richly textured brush strokes, I move into the subject in a tactile and visceral way. The sitter also becomes the catalyst for my own reflections as I navigate their interior world of beauty, sensuality and peculiarity. The intentional ambiguity of my contemporary subjects and their setting, invites the viewer to engage in dialogue and experience the vitality of the spirit and profound mystery that lives within these forms.
